I am so loving fall!
Been busy as a squirrel gathering nuts...aka junk in these parts. I recently started consigning junk in my x -sister-in-law's shop..."Cottage Chic" in East Rochester. I'm trying to offset ye olde junkin' expenses [and make room for new junk booty!] So far, I have about 80 items in the shop which is, as all junkers know, a mere drop in the bucket.I am also threatening to get a booth at "Holidays At The Market" in the Rochester Public Market this year. What's a little 5 am wake up call and 8 hours in freezing temps? Maybe it would be fun!!! At least I would have a good excuse to cruise all the other booths. Lend support etc....
Gotta hit the hay...tomorrow is a big junkin' day...TGIF!

Back To Business
I have neglected my little blog for so long . But, now that will change, as it is the time of year that we all get Back To Business. My business will include learning to post the photos I am constantly taking, and writing more about my junkin' life. I have a few summer adventures to write about, too. See you soon!!!

Non Stop Summer
Oh! If you could see our laundry pile....and everything else that has piled up while we enjoy a summer of non stop fun. We've seen Ratatouille bundled up in blankets on the lawn of The Vintage Drive-In. We've caught a matinee of Transformers on a rainy 4th of July and then foggy fireworks downtown. Yesterday thunderstorms drove us inside to Harry Potter. All were good by the way. Not mind numbing kid movies [thank you!] I actually stayed awake. Visits to the public market downtown and in Pittsford have been punctuated by stops at Taco John's [praise be to the vegetarian Mexican Plate} and an early lunch time graze at the Pizza Hut lunch buffet. Our patio has been lounge central during these hot, hot days.I like night time Marco Polo games in the pool, after dinner alfresco.Heely's have come into our lives with the requisite trips to smooth parking lots. [She's only fallen once, so far.}We have garage saled and thrift stored a little here and there...libraried and bookstored til our hearts are content. This weekend features a wedding reception in Durand Eastman Park , a trip to the arcade/go cart joint and maybe an outdoor movie at Highland Bowl, or Shakespeare In The Park. Highland Bowl is an outdoor amphitheater in Highland Park which is renown for its beautiful displays of lilacs and flowering shrubs in the spring.[ Martha was here this spring to tape a segment of her show...WOW! How cool are we!??] I delude myself that fall will bring house cleaning/purging sessions interrupted only by aerobic exercise..Until then, long live summer.

Summertime! And the Junkin' is Easy
There we were. Speeding thru the suburbs, on the way home from a craft store cruise. It was a Monday, and yet some die hard entrepreneurs had set up a tent, put up legible signs and carefully laid out their junk. As we sped by, I spied 4 vintage garden chairs. OOOOOO I squealed in delight. Where are you going to put them ? yelped the 11 year old splash o cold water from the back seat. Pipe down, party pooper. We're goin' in. 15 minutes later I was the proud owner of a vintage garden set......price.....oh yeah!....3 bucks!! Take that nay sayers! They are white, dirty, rusty, and cool! I can't wait to rough em up and spray em to match the rest of the garden brood. Oh yeah Oh yeah....I am the junkin' QUEEN!!!!!! [well, at least for today.]

Schools Out
Today is my 11 year old daughter's graduation from 5th grade. At 2 o'clock I will dutifully take my place with my husband and his mother. I will snap pictures of her in her pink polka dot dress and secretly wave to her during the ceremony. Afterward we will hit the local ice cream shop that gives away free cones on the last day of school with her sister who will have just emerged from the chemistry final. Then there is a party for her class at a classmates house. And then....what?
Tomorrow I hope to drag her to the Public Market with me, and maybe even to Goodwill. I will seduce her with the possibility of cheap Full House books. Who knows...it could happen. But, it is not quite so easy to get her to go junkin' with me these days. Gone are the days of strapping her into her carseat and promising her a frosty from the drive thru. When I suggest a "Junkin' Day" I get rolling eyes and ughs and screams of "you take too long!!!!"
But every once in a while, I know she will be in the mood and we'll hit the trail, me with my ones and her with her purse full-a change. Will will travel unknown neighborhoods, rummage thru under table treasure boxes, in search of a wee bit of treasure.
And, as we get back in the car and head to the drive thru, I'll realize that we've already got the best treasure there is.
